Scotland's Flower

Apologies if yesterday's musical post was a bit complicated. To summarise:

The end of Flower of Scotland sounds naff if it's a bagpipe band playing. Hasn't anyone else noticed?

  1. Of course I noticed, It's a tremendous frightening for me, each year when comes the 6 Nations, expecting the end of the song : will it be sung the right way (with the flattened seventh) or totaly spoiled by years and years of alterations due to the bagpipe and its impossibility to produce this flattened seventh ? Unfortunately, the damage is down now : the crowd, who used to sing it the right way, is now contaminated by this dictatorial bagpipe which seems to manage whole Scotland, leaving out the small northumbrian one, which is abble to produce this magical flattened seventh. Oh, bag pipers : you never heard about "the lion and the rat" ? Which one is stronger ? Not the lion ! Humility, from the bigpipers, would be to recognize their weakness and, at times, leave room to smaller than they are. ? I don't understant how it is possible to let this song such alterated (and say that the alteration is "as beautiful as the original" (I read that !!!). A cultural crime. . Nice regards to you Martin and Margaret.
