The sun had just crept up over the trees to shine on Erin Mae as we walked out this morning.
There were only a couple of boats with us overnight in this section of the pound, below the lock at Hardings Wood Junction, just before the Harecastle tunnel. Both left early to get on down the hill. We walked into Kidsgrove to join in with worship at St Thomas' church, and they were all getting ready as we arrived.
The building dates from 1837, but a flash flood in 2007 meant a re-working of the floor, so out went all the pews, and the space is now much less formal. So was worship, which combined an all-age service heavily geared to the children, harvest festival, a baptism and a very lively curate. Not your average CofE Sunday morning! The building was packed out and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
After a cuppa we caught the bus to a local Toby Carvery for lunch. Erin Mae was still sitting quietly in the sun when we got back. She's had a lazy day.
